Artist's Comments

Taki from Soul Calibur by Namco.

I was inspired by the art for the new game. I had wanted to just post the finished piece, colors and all. Unfortunately I became rather displeased with the image once I inked it. Also, flipping the image in photoshop seems to ruin it for me. Despite my efforts, she doesn't appear to have a strong underlying framework or structure.

I ask please for people's comments, on the drawing, and/or on the inks versus the pencils. Your input would be highly appreciated.

Actually, looking at them side-by-side, I think I really like the inked version more than the penciled one. It was good you compared them!

As for flipping.. well, you drew her left-handed. That's fine for the drawings. xP There are plenty of people that have done that, and flipping it ruins your whole original thoughts on it, so of course it's going to look cock eyed!

I like the pose, and what you did with the lower lip too to give her that sort of attitude to her expression. I'm a big Taki fan, and this little detail seemed to capture her really well. ^^

Now, for the negatives. Proportions, proportions.. yes, she does have rather large breasts, but.. that's just a little over the top compared to the rest of the size of how you drew her body. Unless that's what you were shooting for, then I can't complain. The only other negative I can think of is maybe shorten up her right arm (my left) just a bit. But doing that, you'd have to shorten the legs, and you'd lose the beautiful angle you placed them at, so. ^^ I wouldn't worry about shortening them too much.

Overall, it's great! I love the personality she's got in the picture. Just the breasts were really all that bothered me... They really stood out, and too much attention is drawn there due to their size compared to the rest of the drawing. Maybe consider toning 'em down a bit.

I tried to make this as advanced as possible, so pardon the longer comment. Maybe a color version? : D

HEY!! Thank you so much for your well thought out and constructed comments. It means a lot to me. And it especially means a lot to me that you liked the inked version. I suppose I have a problem with my art after the pencils which is that I don't view the rest (inking, coloring) as an addition. I think that is why I don't like my inks or colors, I have to find a way to make that art also. But your compliment will help me view the inks here in a more positive light.

As for her breasts, sorry, I guess I meant for that, though they do always come out too big with me. Haha, it's almost an addiction I suppose. I do need to tune that down just a smidgen....

Unfortunately I can't really alter the picture since I have inked the original. The comments are much appreciated though because I was worried that i had somehow ruined the image or it just wasn't as good as I had thought it was. As for colors, I did start working on it--applying the base colors--and hopefully I can get that finished. I just want to find a way to make it more enjoyable as well as more than "color in the lines" for myself when I do it.

Oh and I did notice the left handed bit when I was working on it. I do that a lot but mean to start paying more mind to it.

Thanks again! When a larger colored version is available I will let you know if you like.

I really love your rendition of Taki! I have always loved your renditions of her! Keep up the good work!

Perhaps one day, I may request something from you!

What is it you said to the kid? It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward...

hey thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

I haven't broken out my sketch book in a while now, I just am not that interested in drawing much anymore. Sucks because It still hurts when I see a truly amazing piece and long to create my own.

Hmm, i might be interested in a request, but for one I have no scanner right now with no plans of a new one on the horizons.
